Early on in my work as a preacher, I ran across a used book at the Archives Bookstore in Pasadena that caught my attention. The former owner underlined passages that caught his attention. I recall one of the passages recommending that readers of the Bible learn to read each book as a complete whole. In other words, the various parts of any book should be read in light of the whole book.
I took this advice to heart, and for years now, have tried reading each book in the Bible as a complete whole. You will find my attempt to do so in these lessons from Genesis. I do not claim to do so flawlessly or to be the paradigm by which all efforts should be judged. That is why I describe these lessons as an attempt. Hopefully, they will start the conversation about the book and its contents.
